Uh-oh, it’s the same old tale from a couple of weeks ago! But this time, I’m dockwalking to hitchhike a yacht from Malta to Sicily, mainland Italy, or France. I want to attend the HitchGathering in Saint-Laurent-du-Pape (yes, it’s a mouthful) in France this year. I’m using this cardboard hitchhiking sign to start conversations with people in the marina of Valetta where I arrived. To be honest, I’m not sure if I’m at the correct marina. Malta has a gazillion marinas and it’s impossible to visit all of them in person and walk around. Not all employees of marinas are also too happy when they see a hitchhiker walking their docks, so it’s good to keep the peace.
A kind lady at the captainerie here in Malta seems to see the benefit of helping me find a boat to Sicily. In a ‘help me help you’ kind of way; the earlier I’m gone, the sooner the marina will be a fancy place again. She’s optimistic about a boat here in the marina that will leave tomorrow. Hopefully, I’ll have the chance to go boat hitchhiking on a big yacht tomorrow. Now let’s hope it’s a yes from this Spanish captain. He’s in charge of the decision-making of who’s joining the crew. It would be so awesome to sail away tomorrow morning and not having to stick around the marina for six days again as I did in Corfu, Greece 😀
